Winona Ryder was rushed to hospital after a suspected overdose while on a flight to the UK on Wednesday.

The British Airways jet was forced to make a priority landing - 22 minutes before the expected time of arrival - and the   Edward Scissorhands   star reportedly had her stomach pumped at Hillingdon Hospital, West London.

Winona - who is thought to have a fear of flying - is believed to have accidentally taken too many Xanax pills, which are used to treat anxiety.

Her spokesperson confirmed the 37-year-old star was fit to leave the hospital later that evening, saying: "She did fall ill on a flight and as a precautionary measure, was taken to a hospital.

"She was there maybe an hour and was released. The bottom line is she is in good health."

The Oscar-nominated actress collapsed twice on the 10-hour flight from Los Angeles before being escorted to hospital by British Airways staff, where she checked in under a fake name.
